Prescott:  Everyone’s Hometown

The crowds were huge but very friendly.  On the way up we drove through a couple of rain storms.  The temperatures dropped to about 70.  By the time we reached Prescott town square, everyone was in a festive mood.  We “people watched”, sampled some of the treats, and enjoyed just being outside.

Bordering one side of the town square are several saloons the locals call “Whiskey Row”.  In the street in front of Whiskey Row they hold races.  Participants have to wear boots to race.  People of all ages compete.  I thought the gal in the tutu and duct taped boots was a classic.

After eating a yummy meal at Murphy’s and touring the lobby of the Hassyampa Inn, we took the very winding road over to Jerome which is an old mining town.  A local told us the mine produced over a $1B worth of copper in the early 1900s.  It was closed in the 1950s.  There are only about 350 people who still live in Jerome.

Thanks Annie & Lucas.  We had fun.  Happy B-day U.S.A.
